Patrick Molzahn is the Director of the Cabinetmaking & Millwork program at Madison College (Wisconsin). Prior to becoming an educator, Patrick ran his own business for several years specializing in architectural millwork and custom furniture. A Fine Art and Architecture graduate of The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, he spent 3 years researching Japanese art and architecture in Japan. He then returned to the U.S. to study traditional wooden boatbuilding at the Northwest School of Wooden Boat Building.
Patrick is a founding board member of the Woodwork Career Alliance (WCA) and, in 2018, became the first individual to earn the WCA Diamond Credential. In 2008, Patrick received the distinguished “Educator of the Year” award from the Woodworking Machinery Industry Association (WMIA). His writings have appeared in numerous publications, including Fine Woodworking, Fine Homebuilding, and Woodshop News. He recently authored the sixth edition of the classic textbook, Modern Cabinetmaking.
Patrick served as a member of the Architectural Woodwork Institute’s Technical Standards Committee, where he helped to draft the next generation of woodwork standards. In his free time, he likes to wander all over the world. Patrick has explored trails on five continents, and in 2016, completed over 1400 miles of the Appalachian Trail.
