The Campus

The Central Hall Campus will showcase the SmartSHOP, the WorldSkills Cabinetmaking Qualifying Trial and the Woodwork Career Alliance Trainer Certification Center.

The smartSHOP

The smartSHOP is a fully operational cabinet shop on the exhibit floor that will showcase “Simplicity in Automation for the Small Shop.” If you’ve ever been intimidated by the vast field of woodworking machinery visible on a trade show floor, the smartSHOP brings automation down to scale for the modest size shops. This is a great opportunity for you to see how it takes less time to do more, and do it with ease and sophistication.

It will be hosted by industry expert, Gero Sassenberg and other professionals who will be on hand to answer questions as a fully automated shop demonstrates the machinery and processes of cabinet construction from data input software to cabinet assembly. The experts will interact with attendees while demonstrating the automation process—from start to finish. The smartSHOP will produce product for a local charity, and free, “mini-start demos” will be sprinkled throughout the day for attendees dropping by. Central Hall, Booth 4057

WorldSkills CABINETMAKING QUALIFYING TRIALS

Premiering at the AWFS Fair will be the WorldSkills Cabinetmaking Qualifying Trial. SkillsUSA is the authorized national organization that selects and determines the competitors that will represent the U.S. at WorldSkills. The AWFS-hosted WorldSkills Cabinetmaking Qualifying Trial will determine which of the 2010 and 2011 SkillsUSA top-scoring, age-eligible cabinetmaking competitors will compete in WorldSkills Leipzig (Germany) 2013. The qualifying event will take place during three days of the AWFS Fair, beginning Wednesday morning and ending Friday afternoon. You can watch the students in action, building a project to showcase cabinet construction and woodworking skills including veneering and joinery. The winner will be announced at the WorldSkills booth at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 23. Central Hall, booth 4250
